Mental Health Therapist
Ages: Children, Adolescents, Adults, Parents
Licensed: Maryland & Delaware

Background & Experience

Cortney Ireland is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the states of Maryland and Delaware. She is a dedicated mental health therapist with a strong educational and professional background that reflects her commitment to supporting her clients. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Buffalo State University, where her passion for mental health was sparked, leading her to pursue a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. During her graduate clinical training, Cortney discovered a profound need for mental health services in academic settings, particularly in underserved communities on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. This experience ignited her drive to provide support within school environments, where she became a strong advocate for students, families, and educators alike. Cortney began her career as a school-based therapist, offering real-time support and building expertise in special education laws, cognitive functioning challenges, and executive dysfunction. Her work with diagnoses such as ODD, DMDD, ADHD, and anxiety allowed her to expand her skills to help children and young adults aged 3 to 21. Her unique approach also extended to supporting families through challenging dynamics, including custody battles, fostering stronger connections, and addressing the needs of both youth and their caregivers. Over the years, Cortney broadened her experience across various settings, including community mental health clinics, wellness centers, homes, and virtual platforms, allowing her to refine her skills in cultural competency, collaborative work, and the integration of adaptable therapeutic methods to help kids and adults.

Therapeutic Approach

Cortney takes a holistic and flexible approach to therapy, combining Mindfulness, Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to create a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Each modality contributes a unique strength to her practice, whether through fostering present-moment awareness with mindfulness techniques, encouraging self-exploration and reflection through PCT, or helping clients identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns using CBT. Certified in Sound Healing, Radiant Child Yoga, and EMDR, Cortney enhances traditional therapy by incorporating creative modalities such as trauma-sensitive yoga, BioMat therapy, and REWOT into her sessions. These interventions allow clients to deepen self-awareness, reduce stress, and engage in meaningful healing at both mental and physical levels. Cortney’s integrative and compassionate approach empowers clients to overcome challenges, build resilience, and achieve personal growth, fostering a lasting foundation for improved mental wellness.

Unique Aspects & Philosophy

Cortney is deeply committed to providing a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space that empowers clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while staying grounded in the present. Guided by values of compassion, self-determination, and congruency, she fosters an environment where clients feel truly supported on their path to healing and growth. Cortney’s dedication to continuous learning drives her to engage in ongoing workshops and trainings, including EMDR, Non-violent Communication, Mindfulness Anger Management, co-regulation strategies for youth and caregivers, and the latest research on neurodivergence. Her passion for integrating mental health care into schools led to her involvement in grant writing, through which she has actively advanced mental health accessibility. She has also earned certifications in the Chicago Parenting Program and Circle of Security Parenting Program, enhancing her ability to collaborate with caregivers in building healthier family dynamics. Cortney’s unique blend of expertise, innovation, and heartfelt dedication positions her as a mental health therapist who strives to provide a meaningful, lasting impact on her clients’ lives.
